St. Mark’s School

St. Mark’s School joined the Jockey Club “Peace and Awareness” Mindfulness Culture in Schools Initiative in year 2019-2020.  Teachers have been nominated to attend foundation training in mindfulness, and 15 of them will be delivering the .b mindfulness course to students.  With the subsidy from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, two classrooms have been renovated to enhance furnishings and setting in order to create a space for teachers and students to practise mindfulness. The venues will also be available for training sessions organized by the University of Hong Kong to introduce mindfulness to the community.

In view of the recent changes and challenges faced by students, the school has scheduled ten mindfulness sessions for all Form 4 students between 2019 and 2022.  Moreover, mindfulness is also integrated into the school schedule (such as Morning Assembly) so that teachers and students can calm down through the practice, and to bring their attention back to the present moment.

A Form 6 graduate made the following remark even though she haven’t yet attended the .b course.

‘Thanks to you, I am starting to learn mindfulness, and lifting myself out of illness.’

The first of the two mindfulness room renovation project was completed in September 2020.  We hope to support the development of mindfulness culture so that more teachers and educators can learn about mindfulness, and to live in the present moment.
