Learning to Teach Mindfulness

Training Pathway for Teaching Mindfulness Courses

To facilitate teachers and school professional helpers to learn the basics of mindfulness, the Jockey Club “Peace and Awareness” Mindfulness Culture in Schools Initiative (JC PandA) is running the .b Foundations, an eight-week mindfulness course on a regular basis. .b Foundations is a school-based adult mindfulness course for school staff and parents.

Having completed an eight-week mindfulness course (e.g. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and .b Foundations) and developed a daily mindfulness practice routine of at least 20 minutes for at least 6 months, teachers and school professional helpers who aspire to teach mindfulness to students may attend the Teach .b and Teach Paws b courses. While Teach .b is a four-day training which prepares participants to teach the .b curriculum to secondary school students, Teach Paws b is a three-day training which prepares participants to teach the Paws b curriculum to primary school students. These courses are offered annually by the JC PandA. Upon completion of these courses, teachers and school professional helpers are qualified to teach .b or Paws b to their students.

In order to train school professional helpers (e.g. educational psychologists, social workers, and student guidance personnel) to teach mindfulness to school staff or parents, the JC PandA is offering the “Peace and Awareness Scholarship” to outstanding school professional helpers to attend the School Mindfulness Lead, a seven-day residential training in the United Kingdom. School professional helpers who have successfully completed the training are qualified to teach .b Foundations to school staff or parents.
