Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School

Being one of the seed schools of JC PandA, our teachers are empowered with mindfulness practice so that they are skillful in stress coping and ready to teach mindfulness to students.

At the very beginning, since the teachers were not familiar with the skills, they encountered difficulties on how to deliver the concept of mindfulness to our young and active students.

In the first lesson, teachers gave students a message that ‘mindfulness’ was like a unique gift to every single one, as everyone may have different inner capacity to experience.

The training starts from primary three. To our surprise, through the clips, not only do the students acquired stress coping skills, they also learn the attitude of mindfulness. Games and sharing are also adopted to build up a relaxing setting for learning. They are then guided to learn how to be with their emotions and pay attention to their thoughts and feelings.

A student once asked, “What if I fall asleep while practising breathing?”

The teacher replied, ‘Just let it be’.

He then gave a shy smile.

Watching the students practise breathing exercise, teachers are pleased to see that they take part enthusiastically. Through bringing mindfulness to our daily lives, we may find our mind calmer and less reactive, and experience a better and closer connection with the surroundings. Thus, towards the end of every mindfulness class, teachers would remind all students to take a breathing space at a specific time after school, so that the class can still practise together even when they are physically far apart.

After our teachers have gained solid experience in teaching mindfulness, we shoulder the responsibility to promote the well-being of the students, parents and school community by supporting the development of mindfulness culture in the neighboring schools.
