Man Kiu Association Primary School

Man Kiu Association Primary School has been promoting mindfulness since 2018. Since then, there has been a 5-minute mindfulness breathing practice twice a week to allow students to get ready for their work of the day. They can also practice it at home with their parents with the use of the link on the school website.

Mindfulness is a part of Life Education in Man Kiu. Last year, ‘Peace Corner’ was set up at school by the team members. It is a room for students to practice and understand what mindfulness is. To give students a new perspective on understanding mindfulness, the team members have created a ‘Mindfulness Activity Group’ in the extra-curricular Activity period. Students in the group can practice mindfulness through a range of means, including Pastel Nagomi Art, Zentangle and making mindfulness bottles. These activities not only allow students to practice mindfulness but also engage them in it.

This year, we are honored to join the Jockey Club “Peace and Awareness” Mindfulness Culture in Schools Initiative and become a resource hub. With the support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and the University of Hong Kong, we can offer various activities and provide more opportunities for students to practice mindfulness. There are a total of 6 teachers who have participated in both the .b Foundation 8-week Mindfulness Course and the Teach Paws b course.

This year, we are going to promote mindfulness in primary 3 with the help of the Paws b curriculum. Students can learn more about how and why mindfulness can help them after the course. Besides, we are planning to share our experiences in carrying out mindfulness activities to the people in the same district by organizing an Open Day. We are also going to give a talk to the parents so that they can know more about mindfulness and enjoy the benefits brought by it.
