The "HKU Research Hub of Population Studies Conference Series: The Hazard of Inequality: How Does Inequality Shape Our Wellbeing?" was successfully held on May 17-18, 2024, at the Social Sciences Chamber, HKU, attracting more than 150 participants throughout the two-day event.


The Conference began with a keynote presentation by the prestigious speaker, Professor Ichiro Kawachi from Harvard University, followed by presentations from renowned speakers around the globe, including representatives from Brown University, Fudan University, The Ohio State University, and HKU. Through insightful presentations and thought-provoking discussions, the Conference provided a platform for speakers and participants to delve into topics concerning "How Does Inequality Shape Our Wellbeing", ranging from socioeconomic status, social change, crime and injustice, family, and beyond. The "Conference on Global Demographic Changes: Challenges and Opportunities in Asia", held on March 23, 2024, at the HKU Rayson Huang Theatre, was a remarkable celebration of the launch of the HKU Research Hub of Population Studies, a pioneering initiative recently launched by the Faculty of Social Sciences in October 2023.


This Conference featured a distinguished lineup of renowned scholars in the field of population studies from across the globe, including Professors Mary Brinton, Feinian Chen, Robert Hummer, Yu Xie and Min Zhou from the United States, Professor Sébastien Breau from Canada, and Professor Eldad Davidov from Germany, as well as our HKU representatives, Professors Guy Abel, Satoshi Araki, Sinn-Won Han, Peter Koh, Juyeon Lee, Uta Schӧnberg, Paul Yip and Hui Zheng, contributed their insights, delving into the topic from various disciplines and perspectives. HKU-XJTU Joint Research Hub on Population and Sustainable Development

HKU Research Hub of Population Studies hosted a delegation from the School of Public Policy and Administration, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), on Dec 12, 2023. The insightful meeting fostered an exchange of ideas between our Research Hub leaders and the visiting delegation.


We are also excited to announce the formulation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of the HKU-XJTU Joint Research Hub on Population and Sustainable Development. This joint initiative will be directed and managed by our Faculty and the XJTU School of Public Policy and Administration, aiming to leverage the respective strengths of both universities to address societal needs and substantial development demands. Aligned closely with the nation's mid-to-long-term development strategies, the Joint Research Hub intends to create a globally influential research institution and intellectual powerhouse.

HKU Research Hub of Population Studies is officially launched in October 2023!

HKU Research Hub of Population Studies was officially launched in October 2023 by the Faculty of Social Sciences, serving as a new platform to conduct multi-disciplinary research concerning various population-related issues and public policy.

This site is registered on wpml.org as a development site.
