Cluster Leader: Professor Travis Kong

Great transformations have been taking place in the realm of gender and sexuality: The emergence of different forms of intimate relationship, marriage and family; the decline in fertility and the rise of new reproductive technologies; the growth of LGBTQ identities and communities; the blooming of sex industry and sex tourism; the upsurge HIV/AIDS epidemic, to name but a few.

This cluster takes an interdisciplinary approach to understand the shifting nature of gender and sexuality of a population in the globalised world, with a specific focus on East and Southeast Asia. It examines how the social, economic, cultural and political forces shape the contours of gender and sexuality and provides a platform for social scientists to present cutting-edge research using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The aim is to promote well-being and enhance social inclusion and diversity in society.
