This e-Case examines how, despite incompatible underlying values, fair trade can be promoted in a highly capitalistic city with the freest economy in the world. Through presenting the historical development, key players, opportunities and challenges of the fair trade movement in Hong Kong, this e-Case discusses various windows of opportunity and multiple strategies to promote fair trade. It also illustrates the approaches that Fair Circle, a social enterprise, adopted to build a viable and sustainable fair trade movement.
