March 2013

The 20 ha observatory forest plot at Tai Po Kau was demarcated completely in March, 2091 permanent marker poles were completed for making 500 20m x 20m sub quadrats. Plant surveys of the 20 ha plot started immediately. 4 to 12 student interns, volunteers from HSBC and KFBG join the plant surveys every Monday to Saturday except bad weather.

August 2012 With the help of HSBC volunteers and 6 interns from the University of Hong Kong, all the tree surveys of the 1 ha demonstration plot in Shek Kong were completed. Data entry was completed and data analysis is in progress. The preliminary result showed that 10,446 individuals of 63 species were surveyed. Litsea rotundifolia, Psychotria asiatica, Ilex asprella, Aporosa dioica and Cratoxylum cochinchinense are the dominant species inside the plot.

December 2011

One ha plot in Shek Kong was completely demarcated in November, 441 permanent marker poles were completed for making 400 sub quadrats.

Two offices and a laboratory were set up in the Kadoorie Centre of The University of Hong Kong in Shek Kong (HKUKC) for the GFO project e.g. plant specimen preparation.

August 2011

The Project was officially launched on 25th June 2011. Professional land surveyors will be employed and mark the 1 ha demonstration plot. Demarcation of the 1ha plot should be completed by end of November 2011 and the demarcation of the 20 ha FDP will start soon after.
