| 6.4 | Information on Social Sciences Society (SSS) and Affiliated Societies | Established in 1968 under the Hong Kong University Students’ Union, the Social Sciences Society (SSS) is the only self-governed student organisation representing Social Sciences students at HKU. All students of the Faculty are automatically members of the Society. By completing membership registration and paying the relevant fees, students can enjoy full welfare benefits. Signature events organised by the Society include the Orientation Camp, Annual High Table Dinner, Welfare Weeks, and various academic activities.
The SSS comprises five affiliated societies: the Geographical, Geological & Archaeological Society; Politics and Public Administration Association; Psychology Society; Social Work and Social Administration Society; and Sociology Society. These affiliated societies represent students from specific curricula / majors, and actively promote academic engagement within their respective fields. The Social Sciences Society Council, serving as the legislative and judicial body of the Society, ensures its autonomy and upholds the Constitution. Since the establishment of these societies, the Faculty has worked closely with the student representatives to enhance the teaching and learning environment for all Faculty members. Collaboration efforts in areas such as student welfare, academic development, and curriculum revision exemplify the Faculty’s commitment to co-management and shared governance.
