Dr S.C. Fan was the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of Hong Kong from 1981 to 1989. Dr. Fan obtained his BA from Nanking University, and his MSc and PhD from Cornell University. He was Associate Professor at the College of Agriculture in Taiwan from 1959-60, Post-doctoral Fellow in Statistics at the University of Chicago from 1960-61, and Lecturer in Economics at the University of Singapore from 1961-1969. He joined the University as Senior Lecturer in Economics in 1969, and became Senior Lecturer in Statistics before serving as Head of the Department of Statistics from 1971 to 1976.

1981至1989期間擔任香港大學社會科學學院院長一職的范叔欽博士，分別取得南京大學學士學位，及康奈爾大學社會科學學士及博士學位。他早於1959至1960出任台灣農學院副教授，1960至1961成為芝加哥大學統計學後博士生，及於1961至1969任職新加坡大學經濟學講師。范博士於1969年加入香港大學，先後擔任經濟學及統計學高級講師，及後於1971至1976期間出任統計學系系主任。
