Application for Exemption of CAES1000 (2024-2025 academic year) – Open for Vendor to use


IMPORTANT
You must enroll in the course “CAES1000 Core University English” (CUE) in either the first or second semester of your first year of study unless you have been officially granted exemption from / advanced standing for CUE. Students must use the scores/exam used for admission for this exemption. Test results (i.e., the above list* and HKDSE) should be in the same year in which students are admitted to the University. Test results obtained after the admission to the University will NOT be considered.

For IB, GCE Alevel, and JUPAS students, the exemption shall be granted automatically to the eligible students based on the academic results provided for admission. These students cannot used other qualification for this exemption. Hence, they must take CAES1000. There is no need to submit this exemption application.

Students, who have been granted an exemption, are required to take an elective course in lieu.

The deadline for this application is 2pm, September 13, 2023. Please note that the exemption is only granted toward Year 1 students only. If students chooes to NOT apply for the exemption, they MUST and will be assigned to take CAES1000. Late application will NOT be allowed.

For JUPUS students, students who have achieved Level 5 or above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, or equivalent, are exempted from this requirement, and Core University English is optional. By August 15, 2023, should your degree audit states “Optional to take CUE” under “UG5 English Language Enhancement”, this indicates that the exemption has already been granted.

There is no need to apply for this exemption.

JUPAS students with HKDSE English Language Level 3 or Level 4 are NOT allowed to use any of the above equivalent standards to get exempted from CAES1000. Please note you should choose a CAES1000 class that match your schedule. Otherwise, you will still be assign to one.

Non-JUPAS students are NOT allowed to use HKDSE results to get exempted from CAES1000.
Non-JUPAS students are allowed to use IELTS/TOEFL which is achieved within 2 years before admission to fulfil the English language requirement for admission.
