The Social Sciences Research Centre (HKUSSRC)
Is a research centre within the Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of Hong Kong that advances methodological research and training within the social sciences. The Centre has over 20 years of research experience and is now led by the director Prof Tarani Chandola, (currently the director of the HKU Methods Hub) and supported by a deputy director.
The vision of the SSRC is “to advance methodological research in the social sciences that addresses new challenges in the social sciences, through strategically informed and innovation-driven training, promotion of pedagogical excellence in methods teaching and the provision of national, sector-wide leadership”.
We will advance research methods capability in the social sciences across all disciplines and career stages, delivering a programme of cutting-edge training, covering different areas of core and advanced research methods, including quantitative, qualitative, digital, creative and mixed. The SSRC aims to be the key point of contact for social science research methods experts at HKU and other social scientists in Hong Kong seeking further information, resources, and training in research methods. The SSRC will embed the principles of Open Science Framework in the research practices of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FoSS). The SSRC will offer training in new and diverse social science research methods that respond to new challenges in data collection and new forms of data and analyses that combine open text with survey, administrative, geographical and other sources of data.
