During this summer, we are offering more than 400 internship opportunities in Hong Kong and various locations around the world. Our internships are available with over 120 Community Partners. You will have the chance to participate in non-local internships in Australia, Canada, Japan, Kenya, Mainland China, New Zealand, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.

We recognise that choosing an internship involves multiple factors. While there may not be a perfect internship, you can find one that aligns well with your interests, career goals, skills, language requirements, and experience. We encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and explore new opportunities. Consider the following criteria to make an informed choice:

  • Types of Internships: Look for specialised project-based internships that complement your unique learning experience.
  • Social Issues: Explore internships that address specific problems related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and align with your interests.

Local and Non-local Internships  

Placement-based internships offer students off-campus, work-integrated learning opportunities to work at local or non-local* organisations, including NGOs, social enterprises, think-tanks, startups, business corporations etc., in a variety of posts and on topics ranging from education, sustainability, communication to policy research and community services. Explore a wide range of non-local internship options if you wish to engage in valuable cross-cultural interactions, and explore global issues while gaining foreign workplace experiences.

*Remark: For non-local internships, students should be responsible for their own visa application and checking the visa requirements of their country of origin. Please be reminded to reserve enough time for your visa application if necessary.

Psychology Field Placement

The Psychology Field Placement programme offers the opportunity to gain firsthand experiences in working with psychologists across various disciplines. Interns will work alongside organisational psychologists in consulting roles, counselling and clinical psychologists within mental health agencies, therapies in family counselling services, Autism and Eating disorders and practitioners of animal-assisted therapies. Additionally, engagement with educational psychologist operating within NGOs is included.  This programme aims to broaden students’ horizons and demonstrate the practical applications of Psychology training while providing valuable insights into various career trajectories.

Global Citizenship@Home (GC@Home)  

The GC@Home programme provides a pathway for students to achieve global learning via internship placement in Hong Kong. Students have the opportunity to work with international NGOs and/or local partners in Hong Kong to address global issues, such as migrant workers, refugees, global poverty, and ethnic minorities, with local engagement.

Global Bay Areas Impact Lab  

Programme summary

The Global Bay Area Impact Lab programme is designed to be a multifaceted immersive learning experience that not only fosters intellectual exchange between the largest Bay Areas but also deeply engages participants in experiential learning through the unique lens of social innovation.

Timeline (June 3 to July 26, 2024)

Week 1: Attend training on social innovation and work culture in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) at Sun Yat-sen University.
Week 2-5: Engage in internship placements within the GBA in corporates, start-ups and NPOs, gaining valuable hands-on experience.
Week 6-7: Embark on site visits and participate in exchanges with Japanese social innovation-related organisations and universities, broadening your knowledge and perspectives.
Week 8: Engage in a virtual exchange with expert social innovators from the San Francisco Bay Area. Conclude the programme with a project presentation.

GLoCal Projects: Social Business in Africa and Asia / Education and Community Engagement in Vietnam  

GLoCal Projects provide project-based/cross-disciplinary learning opportunities to work with international NGOs and/or local Community Partners addressing global issues with local engagement. In the past, we worked on issues such as human trafficking in Nepal, fair trade issues with tea pluckers in Sri Lanka and coffee farmers in Indonesia, and quality education issues in Vietnam by building libraries, swimming pools, toilets and classrooms in the rural areas. In the summer of 2024, we will work with small social business owners in Kenya and social innovators in Singapore to document their success stories. We will also be back in Vietnam first time after COVID to engage with the local community by conducting needs assessments and offering quality education programmes.
