Dr. Strobe Talbott assumed the presidency of the Brookings Institution in July 2002 after a career in journalism, government and academe. His immediate previous post was founding director of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization. He served in the State Department from 1993 to 2001, first as Ambassador-at-large and special adviser to the Secretary of State for the new independent states of the former Soviet Union, then as Deputy Secretary of State for seven years.

He entered government after twenty-one years with Time magazine. As a reporter, he covered Eastern Europe, the State Department and the White House, then was Washington bureau chief, editor-at-large and foreign affairs columnist.

He has been a fellow of the Yale Corporation, a trustee of the Hotchkiss School, and a director of the Council on Foreign Relations, the North American Executive Committee of the Trilateral Commission, and the American Association of Rhodes Scholars. He is currently a trustee of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a member of the participating faculty of the World Economic Forum, and a member of the Aspen Strategy Group.

Strobe Talbott博士曾先後任職傳播媒介、政府機構及學術界,及後於二零零二年七月開始擔任布魯金斯研究院院長。他曾任耶魯大學全球化研究中心創辦總監。而1993至2001於國務院服務期間,先後擔任大使級官員及國務卿特別顧問,後來更出任副國務卿一職,歷時七年。

他在《時代》雜誌任職二十一年後加入政府。作為一位記者,他主要負責跟進東歐、國務院及白宮的事務,及後成為華盛頓辦事處主管、編輯及外交事務專欄作家。現時他亦積極參與多個具影響力的國際組織,包括美國外交委員會、三邊委員會轄下的北美委員會及美國羅德學人協會、卡內基國際和平基金會、世界財富論壇及Aspen策略小組。
