Strategic Public Policy Research Grant

The Centre for Water Technology and Policy was awarded a HK$4.09M Strategic Public Policy Research Grant for a research project on Smart Water Auditing.

The Centre for Water Technology and Policy was awarded, in March 2022, a HK$4.09 million grant under the Strategic Public Policy Research Funding Scheme, administered by the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Policy Innovation and Co-ordination Office. The Scheme is a major initiative to support longer-term public policy research on big data and smart city and is designed to help build up the research capacity in, and facilitate collaboration among, institutions of higher learning on these themes.

The grant will be used to support the Centre’s research project on Smart Water Auditing. The project will commence in May 2022. The objectives of the project are (i) to empower households with the provision of fine-grained water-use data in a user-friendly feedback format; (ii) to facilitate the Water Supplies Department to design and implement effective domestic water conservation measures; and (iii) to contribute to achieving the 2017 Policy Address’s target of reducing Hong Kong’s per capita freshwater consumption by 10 percent by 2030.
