CUE exemption – open for vendor review


IMPORTANT
You must enroll in the course “CAES1001 Academic Communication in English” (ACE) in either the first or second semester of your first year of study unless you have been officially granted exemption from / advanced standing for ACE. Students must use the scores/exam used for admission for this exemption. Test results (i.e., the below list* and HKDSE) should be in the same year in which students are admitted to the University. Test results obtained after the admission to the University will NOT be considered.

For IB, and JUPAS students, the exemption shall be granted automatically to the eligible students based on the academic results provided for admission. There is no need to submit this exemption application.

The deadline for this application is 2pm, September 11, 2025. Please note that the exemption is only granted toward Year 1 students only. If students chooes to NOT apply for the exemption, they MUST and will be assigned to take CAES1001. Late application will NOT be allowed.

For JUPUS students, students who have achieved Level 5 or above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, or equivalent, are exempted from this requirement, and Core University English is optional. By August 18, 2025, should your degree audit states “Optional to take ACE” under “UG5 English Language Enhancement”, this indicates that the exemption has already been granted.

There is no need to apply for this exemption.

JUPAS students with HKDSE English Language Level 3 or Level 4 are NOT allowed to use any of the above equivalent standards to get exempted from CAES1001. Please note you should choose a CAES1001 class that match your schedule. Otherwise, you will still be assigned to one.

Non-JUPAS students are NOT allowed to use HKDSE results to get exempted from CAES1001.

Other examinations cannot be used to waive this requirement. Student who do not met the IB qualifications listed must enroll in CAES1001.

For HKDSE applicants, the exemption shall be granted automatically to the eligible students based on the academic results provided for admission. There is no need to submit this exemption application.

Other examinations cannot be used to waive this requirement. Student who do not met the DSE qualifications listed must enroll in CAES1001.
