World Water Day

Each year, people across the world celebrate the World Water Day on March 22nd, an international observance declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993, highlighting the importance of water and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

To mark the occasion of World Water Day 2019, the Jockey Club Water Initiative on Sustainability and Engagement (JC-WISE) will organise a series of public education events between March 22 and 24, 2019 with the aims of enhancing people’s awareness of the multiple values of water and promoting the importance of achieving water sustainability in Hong Kong.

The World Water Day 2019 celebration events will start off with the Launch Ceremony of “Water Wise Campus” Campaign, a campus-wide awareness building campaign, at the University of Hong Kong on March 22, 2019. Meanwhile, a theme tram car, “Water WISE Tram (惜水號)”, showcasing features of local rivers and Water Footprint, will be launched and will travel through the heartland of Hong Kong to draw the public’s attention to water conservation issues. To further reconnect urbanites with our local rivers, there will also be guided tours to Lai Chi Wo River (March 23), Lam Tsuen River and Sheung Yue River Catchments (March 24). Trainers who have benefited from JC-WISE’s professional enhancement programme under the “My River, My Community” Scheme will be invited to be tour guides and lead the public to explore the multiple functions and values of rivers in Hong Kong.
