Prize Presentation Ceremony

  In recognition of students' outstanding achievement, a number of prizes and scholarships have been endowed for social sciences students. With the generosity of the donors, a number of students in the Faculty of Social Sciences through their outstanding achievements in the academic or other activities are awarded with various scholarships and prizes each year. The awardees will be presented at the Prize Presentation Ceremony which will be held in November/December. In the academic year of 2005-2006, over 200 students in the Faculty were awarded more than 300 prizes and scholarships.
     
Faculty level prizes/scholarships
A. UG prizes/scholarships
1. Swindon Book Company Prize in Psychology
Awarded to the best student among those completing the Final Examination in 8 courses in Psychology in the Faculty of Arts and in at least 8 or more courses in Psychology in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
 
2. Henry James Lethbridge Memorial Book Prize
Awarded to the BSocSc student who has taken 8 courses or more in Sociology and who has achieved the best overall performance in Sociology.
 
3. Jean Robertson Memorial Book Prize
Awarded to the final BSW student who has read at least 8 papers in Social Work and who, in the opinion of the Board of Examiners, has shown the most promise as a potential social worker.
 
4. Peter Hodge Memorial Book Prize
Awarded to final BSocSc student who has taken at least 4 “Social policy and administration” courses and who has achieved the best overall performance in Social policy and administration courses.
 
5. Z.Y. Kuo Prize in Psychology
Awarded to the best student among those completing the Semester I & II Examinations in Psychology in the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences.
 
6. Ellen Koo Prize
Awarded to one student who has the best performance in the final examination with in the Faculty.
 
7. The K.K. Ho Prize
Awarded to students who have achieved the best academic merit in each year for degrees or majors offered by the Departments of Politics and Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work and social Administration, and Statistics and Actuarial Science
 
8. The K.K. Ho Scholarship
Awarded to students who have achieved the best overall performance in the Semester I & II or Semester III & IV in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
 
9. Ho Fook Prize
Awarded to two students from the BSocSc and BSW based on the First and Second Semester examination results.
 
10. Chan Kai Ming Prize
Awarded to two students from the BSocSc and BSW based on the result of the final examination.

Hong Kong University Alumni Prize
Awarded to a second year student in the Faculty of Social Sciences based on academic merit, participation in sports and other extra-curricular activities, leadership qualities and personality.

   
       
B. TPG prizes
1. Dr. Geraldine Mao-Ng Prizes in Psychology
Awarded to the final MSocSc(Clin Psych) and MSocSc(Edu Psych) student who has achieved the best overall performance and the best research dissertation on an aspect of applied psychology.
       
2. Jean Robertson Memorial Book Prize
Awarded to the final MSW student who has achieved the best overall performance and shown the most promise as a potential social worker.
