Introduction

Rural communities have an important role in mega city’s sustainable development. This symposium facilitates the sharing of regional knowledge and practical experience on how socio-cultural, local economic and environmental well-being are integrated in rural communities against the trend of urbanisation in the Asia region.

This symposium brings together stakeholders and experts on sustainable revitalisation of rural communities and areas in Asia. Representatives from governments, academia, non-governmental organisations, international organisations, etc who have hands’ on experience on sustainable rural community revitalisation in the Asia region will present and discuss on five thematic issues: defining sustainable development for rural communities; partnerships and institutional framework; farming in community revitalisaiton; living in harmony with nature; and culture and community building for rural development. The symposium also provides the first knowledge exchange platform for regional connectivity on rural community revitalisation in Asia.
