What if I do not have a student visa?

No refund will be made if students enroll in this progrmme do not have a valid student visa. Without a valid student visa, you are not regarded as a HKU student which means you will not be able to enjoy the benefits as other students such as transcripts, medical insurance, library and sports facilities access etc. Upon receipt of your admission letter, you need to apply for a student visa and other tourist visas, if required, immediately.

 
What do I do if I am unable to submit the online application form?

The application system is monitored by the International Affairs Office (IAO). Should you have any questions or experience any difficulties regarding the application system, please contact IAO at ugsummer@hku.hk.

 
Is social science background required?

The Summer Institute is open to undergraduate students preferably from social sciences discipline. However, students from any academic discipline who are interested in learning about the recent development of China and Asia on the world stage are also welcome to join the programme.

 
What language will be conducted in this programme?

All lectures and field trips will be conducted in English.

 
Do I need to send the original of the transcript for application?

You need to send the original official transcript to the Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of Hong Kong.

 
I am unable to get my official transcript before the application deadline, what should I do?

Please submit the transcript showing your exam grades and provide the official transcript once available.

 
Any kind of financial assistance or scholarships offered to students or fee concession are provided?

No financial assistance or scholarships are provided.

 
Do I get double discount due to family member of HKU alumni and early bird?

Applicants will only enjoy either the HKU alumni discount or early bird discount.

 
Will there be any fee deduction if students stay behind at the last destination of the programme?

No fee deduction will be provided as we will be using group air-tickets.

 
Can I choose my room mate?  What is the principle of roommate allocation?

A roommate of same gender will be allocated to each student in advance, and students shall not change or swap their roommates without prior notice.  In order to promote cross-cultural exchange, students from the same country and university are not roomed together as far as possible.

 
What is the postal code of Hong Kong?

There is no postal code system in Hong Kong.
