Project Title: Combining professional and expert-by-experience knowledge in the search for personal recovery from bipolar disorder: A collaborative and interpretive inquiry

Abstract: The overall aim of this study is to examine how individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) seek, assess and use read professional and expert-by-experience knowledge (provided by peer-supporters based on their own lived experience of mental illness) to make positive changes as part of the recovery process. The results will inform practice and training in psychiatric settings and encourage the creative incorporation of peer supporters into the recovery process, thereby facilitating improvements in service provision and policy-planning in a resource-limited health sector.
