4-Year Curriculum - Social Sciences Students

 
Bachelor of Social Sciences Curriculum Structure
(For candidates admitted in or after the 2012–13 academic year under the 4-year curriculum)

The Bachelor of Social Sciences Curriculum (BSocSc) consists of a total of 240 credits over a period of four years of study. At the end of the first year, you will declare a social science disciplinary major from one of the six majors including China Studies (Social Sciences stream), Geography, Politics and Public Administration, Psychology, Social Work and Social Administration, and Sociology. In addition, you can elect to pursue a second major or up to two minors offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences or other Faculties.

1Six 6-credit Common Core Courses, selecting not more than one course from the same Area of Inquiry within one academic year and at least one and not more than two courses from each Area of Inquiry within the first three years of studies.

2Free electives refer to total curriculum load (i.e. 240 for BSocSc) minus University requirements (i.e. 54) and disciplinary major requirements (should normally not exceed 96 credits).  Free electives are credits which can be used for a second major/minor within or outside the Faculty.

3Social sciences students who wish to have a second major or a minor in a social science discipline should enrol for the relevant introductory course through the 'Introductory Courses from Core Departments" category. If the introductory course(s) for the disciplinary major is (are) same as the second major or the minor, students are required to enrol the equivalent number of credits of advanced course(s) in that second major or minor.
