The Department of Politics and Public Administration, established in 1970, is a founding department of the Faculty of Social Sciences. During the past decades, the Department has contributed to the development of field both locally and internationally through dedicated teaching and research work with a well-established academic reputation.
The Department has a team of motivated academics who come from different parts of the world and possess expertise in a wide range of disciplines. We combine international and local experiences to offer courses of diverse interests, which integrate theoretical understanding with contemporary debates, and encourage student involvement in our research projects. Through these practices, students in the Department are exposed to basic concepts and general features of political systems, as well as organization and functions of government.
The Department contributes as a core unit to the Faculty's Bachelor of Social Sciences programme and serves as the host department for the highly successful BSocSc(GL) programme. We also work in partnership with the Politics and Public Administration Association (PPAA), which is a dynamic and cohesive student organization.
Students in the Department are exposed to basic concepts and general features of political systems, as well as the organisation and functions of government. Combining international and local experiences, the Department offers courses of diverse interest, which integrate theoretical understanding with contemporary debates. Specialist streams include comparative politics, international politics, political theory and public administration.
