Research

Before relocating from the UK to Hong Kong in 1999, Ian's research interests focused mainly on policy coordination in the UK central state. He was keen to pursue this interest in Asia, but found it difficult to gain the very high-level access necessary to this kind of research work. After experimenting with one or two other research spheres, he therefore developed a fresh research interest in the politics of Myanmar. In the past few years, his research has focused on problems of political reform inside the country, and on human security challenges facing Myanmar migrants in northern Thailand.
