The Faculty of Social Sciences was established in 1967 and has since undergone rapid expansion and significant transformation. The Faculty comprises the Departments of Geography, Politics and Public Administration, Psychology, Social Work and Social Administration, Sociology, and Journalism and Media Studies Centre. Through our focus on social innovation (SI) and global citizenship (GC), we also seek to contribute to the advancement of society and the development of leaders locally, regionally, and globally.
The Faculty aspires to be a world-leading source of social science research about Greater China, Asia, and the world. We have identified the following research clusters as areas of focus over the next 5-10 years: Contemporary China: social, political, and spatial transformation; Mental Wellness: from brain to society; and Cities 2050: urbanisation, mobility, and sustainability. We are building these clusters with the foundation of six multidisciplinary research centres that provide a platform for research interaction and collaboration among colleagues on campus and in the wider world In addition, we are developing our capacity in social science research methods.
